Catapult Grey Bruce announced a new tech network to connect entrepreneurs and technology professionals today at its grand opening.

Formerly known as the Grey Bruce Tech Network, the newly branded and re-structured Catapult Tech Network (CTN) will operate across Grey and Bruce Counties. It will provide networking and education centred on technology relevant to the needs of local entrepreneurs and professionals.

“By providing a more formal way for tech founders, independent consultants and service providers to connect with one another, the tech network will deliver the means for entrepreneurs and local businesses to meet and learn from each other,” said Jennifer Christie, Catapult Grey Bruce, executive director.

The network was identified as an opportunity by local entrepreneurs and business leaders and compliments Catapult’s existing entrepreneurial focused programming.

The former Grey Bruce Technology Network, an informal network of tech workers across Grey and Bruce, was founded by Catapult Grey Bruce Director Mike Comello. It held 25 events from 2016-2020 before the pandemic.

There’s a great fit between technology and entrepreneurship, but more so this network is about helping people connect with each other and build relationships
— Mike Comello

“As more and more new people move into the region, it’s rewarding to know that the CTN will provide a way for professionals and entrepreneurs alike to meet. And having the network associated with Catapult means business support and mentorship opportunities are always close by,” Comello added.

The network will be led by Chris Herbert, local entrepreneur and founder of Silicon Halton, a similar group based out of Halton Region.

Catapult also opened “The Crashpad'' today, a coworking space located in the Sydenham Campus Regional Skills Training, Trades and Innovation Centre in Owen Sound. The Crashpad is open on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9 AM - 4 PM and will be free for entrepreneurs to access in December.

Starting in the new year, coworking memberships will be available to purchase and the CTN will host meet-ups and pilot some innovative, cross-sector projects. Organizations interested in partnering or individuals interested in joining the network can learn more by visiting www.catapultgreybruce.com/tech-network

A full house was on hand for the official opening of the Catapult Crashpad in Sydenham Campus in Owen Sound on December 2, 2021.

Catapult Grey Bruce and The Crashpad are funded in part by the Government of Canada through the Federal Economic Development Agency for Southern Ontario. Additional support is provided by Grey County and private sector sponsors and donors.
