Volunteer Opportunity: Catapult Grey Bruce Board of Directors 2023
Purpose:
Catapult Grey Bruce is looking for two individuals interested in making a meaningful contribution to the area’s entrepreneurial ecosystem through volunteer positions on Catapult Grey Bruce’s Board of Directors.
Organization Overview:
Catapult Grey Bruce is a non-profit organization committed to creating a dynamic and thriving entrepreneurship ecosystem in Grey Bruce. Founded by local entrepreneurs, Catapult Grey Bruce strongly believes in collaboration, mentorship, and community. Our mission is to empower established entrepreneurs with connections, knowledge and space to take their business to the next level.
In 2020, Catapult Grey Bruce received a funding grant from Federal Economic Development Agency of Southern Ontario to provide acceleration and incubation services to local entrepreneurs - the first of its kind in rural Ontario. This funding is part of a larger contribution to Grey County for business programming at Sydenham Campus Regional Skills Training, Trades, and Innovation Centre in Owen Sound where Catapult Grey Bruce is headquartered.
With growing industries right here in our communities, specifically in agri-food and retail, energy and their suppliers, manufacturing and tech, and construction and trades, the opportunities for business growth and scaling are on our doorstep. In addition to working in collaboration with key players in business supports like BDO, Community Futures, Georgian College, the Business Enterprise Centre, Business to Bruce, Catapult Grey Bruce facilitates mentorships with established business owners in the community who truly understand the uniqueness of the region.
Entrepreneurs have identified funding, marketing support, mentorship, and prototyping to be some of their key interests and Catapult Grey Bruce has responded to meet these needs. With a new annual membership that includes workspace and mentor support, the FabLab maker space studio under development, and so many opportunities for business owners to connect, learn and grow, Catapult Grey Bruce is establishing itself as the hub of innovation in Grey and Bruce counties. Catapult Grey Bruce is a Startup Canada community and an anchor tenant in Sydenham Campus Skilled Trades, Training and Innovation Centre in Owen Sound.

About the Board of Directors:
The Board of Directors provides guidance and oversight to the Executive Director and actively participates in setting the strategic direction and fundraising activities of the organization. As an active and involved board, Catapult Grey Bruce is looking for experienced directors interested in participating in the growth of the organization.
Expectations of Directors:
While we will entertain applications from all qualified applicants, preference will be given to candidates with entrepreneurial experience and diverse lived experiences within our region.
Specifically, the Board of Directors is looking forward to hearing from candidates who have some or all of the following attributes and experience:
Primary resident of Grey or Bruce County.
Experience with entrepreneurship or an entrepreneur ecosystem: leading a company from start-up through scale-up stage.
Familiar with not-for-profit governance.
Strong community connections, fundraising and event planning experience.
Experience with strategic plans, budgets and financial controls.
Working Conditions
Board Directors are required to commit to:
5-10 hours per month to prepare and participate in monthly meetings, committees, and provide ongoing support to the Executive Director.
Participate in board meetings once a month from 8:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.
A three-year term.
Participation on at least one committee (Fundraising, Audit & Finance, HR & Recruitment, Governance or other).
