CTN Meetup #6: *Postponed* Technology Innovation in the Nuclear Industry and Beyond

  • Presentations from Dr. Eric Johnston, Chief Innovation Officer of Nuclear Innovation Institute and Catapult Technology Network Development lead Chris Herbert. 

    Dr. Johnston will present on interesting innovations taking place in Nuclear with emphasis on key advanced technologies that are being adopted in the areas of robotics, IoT and AR.

    Chris Herbert will provide an overview of the Catapult Technology Network design and key initiatives underway. 

  • Following these brief presentations will be water cooler chats with NII and  Joe Dales, Co-founder and President, Agri & Food Innovation RH Accelerator Inc. 

    Led by expert facilitator Rick Wolfe, these interviews will draw from each interviewee’s experience, expertise and insights on innovation and technology in their respective industries. Focus will be on understanding the current state of adoption, challenges and opportunities that exist today and their view on where technology and innovation needs to move forwards and why.

  • Next a group of leaders will get together for an in-depth Kitchen Table Conversation, led by Rick Wolfe, with key leaders in technology, nuclear and agriculture. 

    The conversation will continue to explore the unique and common challenges and opportunities experienced in each industry when it comes to innovation and advanced technology adoption. 

    Also discussed will be ideas and ways that cross-industry sector engagement and collaboration is and can take place in order to accelerate the adoption of advanced technologies through collaborative projects, solution development locally with technology entrepreneurs and professionals in Grey Bruce. 

  • Finally, the KTC conversations will be extended to everyone to further explore what was discussed, discovered and potentially missed. And, to further advance key themes and common threads that can be crystalized into ideas, working groups and potential projects that can be incubated and advanced through the CTN.

  • Dr. Eric Johnston, Chief Innovation Officer

    Dr. Eric Johnston is the Chief Innovation Officer at the Nuclear Innovation Institute (NII), where he leads efforts turning good ideas into great projects for some of Canada’s largest companies in the nuclear space. His familiarity with emerging technologies like advanced manufacturing and machine learning, combined with knowledge of nuclear issues from isotopes to radiation exposure, has helped him develop projects and get them funded, with academic and government partners including the U.S. Department of Defense and the Canadian Space Agency. Eric has a PhD in Health/Medical Physics from McMaster University and a nuclear engineering undergraduate degree from Queen’s University.

    Chris Herbert, Rural Entrepreneur

    Chris Herbert is a rural entrepreneur and founder of Mi6, a Value Development and Generation agency. He’s also the co-founder of the Tech Community Silicon Halton. Over the past 25 years Chris has worked with technology entrepreneurs and companies helping them define their business models and go to market and grow. He is obsessed with helping ventures, communities and markets define, develop and generate value.

    Rick Wolfe, Principal

    Rick is the developer of the Kitchen Table Conversation model of group process. Practitioners use KTCs for customer journey mapping, UX, innovation, insight discovery, strategic planning, stakeholder engagement, customer dialogue, change management, brand development, think tanks and service design. The Kitchen Table Conversation approach has a track record that extends over twenty years.

    Joe Dales, Co Founder & President, Agriculture & Food Innovation, RH Accelerator Inc

    Joe Dales is the co-founder of RH Accelerator Inc. and leads their value adding investments in the agriculture and food innovation and start-up sector. RHA (www.RHAccelerator.com) has made more than 25 investments and continues to support entrepreneurs with hands on, experienced business coaching and support.

    Joe has been involved in successfully launching over 40 agri tech innovations ranging from crop protection products (Pursuit, Odyssey, seed varieties, biologicals (HiStick), start up companies like Farms.com and AgCareers.com and a range of products and services. He is passionate about bringing innovation to agriculture and helping farmers improve productivity.

  • Catapult Grey-Bruce

    Catapult Grey-Bruce is at the nexus of the entrepreneurship ecosystem. As entrepreneurs we understand the challenges business owners face and provide them with connections to other founders, funders and supporters. We have deep ties into the agri-food, energy and tourism sectors, we know the local, regional and national folks with the know-how to help accelerate business and economic growth in the area.     The Catapult Tech Network (CTN) creates connections with local tech professionals, experts, enthusiasts and entrepreneurs. Network members come together at knowledge sharing events, tech focused projects and to shine a light on Grey Bruce’s technology sector.

    Making Connections - With relevant people & professionals with similar interests, complimentary skills and experiences in technology living and/or working in Grey Bruce

    Collaborative Experiences - on informal and formal projects that can be simply fun or something that will spark positive change
